- New ECA from 1st January 2015
This year, numerous shipping companies have already pointed to exorbitant bunker fuel costs as the reason behind less than impressive financial results, with the implementation of a North American ECA sure to further add to these woes. A price premium $50-$100 per metric tonne on LSFO is a given, but it could vary greatly basis port and supplier. Product sourcing will be necessary and the delivery vessels would have to be refitted with numerous separate delivery systems/ tank segregation.
Vessel has to be refitted with tank splitting, pipeline segregation, additional precaution for change over.
It is now a good news that LSFO has received ISO standard and compatibility study has been done by renown bunker testing company, giving a positive result in favour of new LSFO.
However additional burden to crew, ship-owners and managers remains.
